Sands Cove
A 5 minute walk down a laneway from the house is this private and secluded shingled cove. Perfect for a picnic, kayaking, snorkelling, a quiet read or a spot of rock pool hunting.
Red Strand
A safe, sandy beach great for kids a 3 minute drive or 20 minute walk from the house. Stunning views across to Galley Head Lighthouse
Dunnycove
A sheltered spot across the headland from Dunowen. There is no beach but a slipway gives you access to crystal waters ideal for swimming and fishing.
Inchydoney Beach
A popular and award winning long sandy beach, perfect for surfing. Very good surf school located on the beach. Inchydoney is between Dunowen and Clonakilty.
Duneen Strand
A small sheltered beach located between Dunowen and Inchydoney, close to the Dunmore Hotel. Very safe for children and a great spot for open-water swimming.
Long Strand
It is located approx 10 minutes drive from the house, on the border of historic Castlefreke Woods.
The Warren
A 10 minute drive from the house to Rosscarbery and you’ll find the lovely sandy and family friendly beach.
"A Magical West Cork Escape"
We stayed at Dunowen House for a long weekend and genuinely didn’t want to leave. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the beauty of the house and its surroundings – the views, the gardens, the quiet… it’s pure magic. The house itself is full of character and history but still feels incredibly cosy and luxurious.
We loved having our morning coffee overlooking the sea and strolling down to the nearby coves. It was the perfect mix of relaxation and adventure. Clonakilty is only a few minutes away too, so we had some lovely meals out and picked up bits from the local markets.
